Other ways of paying attention
Music, words, and ways of seeing.
The creative work of Md Imrul Hassan: singing, original compositions, Bangla poetry and photography.
Some things are easier to understand by making them: singing a song, writing a line, or waiting for the light. A melody, a poem, and a photograph offer different ways to notice and express something—not every question needs the same kind of answer.
Music
I record mostly Bangla and subcontinental songs, drawing from modern and film music, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, folk and ghazal. Most recordings are covers, not songs I wrote.
My original compositions include Kotodin Brishti Viji Na, Ekhono Asheni Dak and Kal Shararat Ghum Ashe Ni. Some songs have more than one recorded version.
Listen on SoundCloud. I also have an earlier, smaller account with overlapping material.
Words and melodies in other voices
Lyrics and tune by Md Imrul Hassan, sung by Parvin Sultana, with music by Jk Majlish. Released by SevenTunes Entertainment; the recording and video belong to the label.
My poem, set to music and performed by Sazal Roy. Read the poem.
Writing
Twelve poems in Bangla, about memory, longing, rain and the pull of the natural world.
Browse all twelve poems, including কাল জোছনা, ঘুমকন্যা and চল চলে যাই.
My Medium archive also holds older technical notes and writing, including Linux One Liners, Personality Traits, কাল জোছনা and Mind Hacking. The initials of the lines in Mind Hacking spell IMRUL HASSAN.
Photography
I have photographed birds, flowers, landscapes, cities and night skies. An earlier version of this website held a small gallery; my older photographs include work made with a Canon EOS 450D.
