Advent of Code

StatusOngoing

An ongoing Kotlin practice whose lasting result is a reusable puzzle-solving toolkit.

I return to Advent of Code for its gradual progression of challenges and the community that forms around solving them. The exercises provide a recurring reason to explore algorithms, data structures and unfamiliar problem shapes.

Kotlin is particularly enjoyable in this setting. It can feel like a bridge between Java’s practical ecosystem and some of the expressive qualities I value in Haskell.

The toolkit between the answers

Individual solutions are only part of the collection. Over several years, the repository has accumulated reusable support for:

  • loading inputs and running puzzles
  • parsing and transformation
  • two-dimensional grids
  • combinatorial operations
  • dynamic-programming patterns
  • shared utilities used across different years

That evolving toolkit is the more meaningful artifact: a record of how repeated problem-solving gradually produces a personal working environment.

The collection remains ongoing whenever I participate rather than representing one completed season.
